Epsom Rotary International Meal at Shenai, Ashtead, Tuesday 18/05/2010

The Epsom Rotary International meal took place at the Shennai Indian Restaurant in Ashtead. Epsom Rotaract graciously cancelled their meeting that night in order to support the event.

Rotarians, Rotaractors and friends of Rotaract attended on the night. An excellent three course meal was interspersed with speeches from our host Terry Maggs. He explained the concept of shelter boxes, which is to provide aid relief to disaster victims (http://www.shelterbox.org/). On the night, approximately £650 was raised for Shelterbox! Terry Maggs also added £340 from his committee budget. The combined £900 total enabled us to fund two boxes. The boxes were sent to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

To give the evening a further international flavour, Martina, a Czech Rotaractor visiting the UK also joined in the proceedings. This was the second time she met Rotaractors during her UK trip - talk about starting on a high note!
