Solent Day Sail 28/04/2012

Epsom Rotaract's Simon provides another insightful glimpse into Rotaract's latest sailing trip:

A small gap between the gale force winds allowed 6 Rotaractors to take to the water aboard a yacht based on the Hamble River for a day trip. Following a safety briefing, Anthony, Caro, Ellie, Rob, Simon and Wendy set out from the Hamble River and headed up Southampton Water to the moorings at Eling. On the way each person had the opportunity to helm (steer) the boat and adjust the sails to help keep the boat moving as quickly as possible.

On arrival at Eling, we picked up an empty mooring buoy which gave everyone a chance to warm up in the cabin with a hot drink and some lunch whilst watching the containers being loaded onto the waiting cargo ships at Southampton Docks opposite our temporary mooring.

The afternoon saw us sailing gently back down Southampton Water, again giving everyone a turn to helm the boat before we motored back up the Hamble River and arrived safely back on our mooring. We then enjoyed an evening meal and chat aboard before everyone headed home.

“Another enjoyable trip on the boat. Easy learning curve with opportunity to get involved in as much or as little as you like. Weather held out too! Cheers Simon.”
