New Years Eve 2010 at the Isle of Wight.

 
Rotaractors once again converged on the Isle of Wight for New Years Eve. The 2010 edition featured club members and honorary members from both the Woking and Epsom clubs, giving the event a district 1140 flavour.

The Epsom Rotaract Christmas Meal 2010 11/12/2010



Ho! Ho! Ho! Epsom Rotaractors, Rotarians and friends attended the 2010 Christmas Meal. This year it was held at the function room of the Rising Sun pub in Epsom. There was Christmas music, lights, holly, tinsel crackers all laid on by the pub! And a tasty Christmas meal as well of course.

Epsom Rotary Christmas Collections 28/11/2010.

The annual Epsom Rotary Christmas collections for 2010 began at the Wells Estate in Epsom. As is customary, Tilly the train, Epsom Rotarians, Santa (aka Rotarian John Goddard) and Christmas hat wearing Rotaractors were all present. As usual, they collected for Rotary many associated charities. A big thank you to everyone who participated!

The Epsom Rotaract Coffee Morning 27/11/2010

Epsom Rotaract recently staged a coffee morning at Ashtead Baptist Church. Rotarians, friends, family and residents of Ashtead received a warm welcome on a chilly Saturday morning. They were greeted by a hearty supply of coffee and a wide assortment of homemade cakes made by the Rotaractors.

Maintenance work at the Stephen Woods Centre Day One 20/11/2010



Volunteers consisting of  Epsom Rotaract, Epsom Rotary, Ewell Rotary and friends of the clubs (aka the Epsom Community Projects Group)converged in Epsom in late November. The Stephen Woods Centre was in need of a new look and the team began stage one of the makeover.

Operation Christmas Child - Present wrapping for Samaritans Purse 05/11/2010



Members and friends of the club gathered in Epsom to collect and wrap presents for a worthy cause: Samaritan's Purse.

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas appeal with a heritage of 20 years. Every year Operation Christmas Child is made possible through the amazing support of thousands of children and adults in the UK and Ireland. Last year alone we had the nearly 1.2 million shoeboxes were sent, bursting with joy from the UK and over 200,000 from Ireland to children in parts of Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

Halloween Party at Amy's Flat 30/10/2010

Muhahaha! Epsom Rotaractors and friends marked Halloween 2010 at Amy's flat. The doors opened with a menacing creek at 7pm. Henceforth, there were many ghoulish games to be played. This included: a Halloween quiz (boys vs girls - with Mark as an honorary girl), horror movie charades, wink murder and erm, Twister. There were also wicked snacks, along with a scary amount of alcohol to be had.

The Camberley Rotaract Barn Dance 16/10/2010

 
Swing your partners, Dosey Do! Camberley Rotaract hosted it's annual barn dance at Connaught School in Tongham. Rotaractors from the 3 district 1140 clubs, Rotarians, friends, family and members of Surrey Young Ramblers all attended. What followed was several hours of willow-stripping, hand starring, basket lifting, fun and shenanigans.

Woking Rotaract Pirate Party 18/09/2010

Arrr!! Shiver me timbers!! Swash my buckle! It's the Woking Rotaract Pirate Party! Chobham Rugby Club played host to a fun filled evening of pirate-related activities. This included: a walk the plank, a guess the buried treasure game, a pop up pirate, fancy dress, and a disco (okay that wasn't VERY piratey per se).

Members of district 1140 and 1090 came out in force for the event. The result was £220.52 being raised to go towards the Disability Challengers in Guildford. Well done Jim lad!! Arrr!!

TV Presentation to The Firefighters Charity at Littlehampton 11/09/2010

Recently, members of the Epsom Rotaract Club took part in a day trip to Littlehampton. Using the money raised from President Mark Cunnell's 09/10 year (£1,300), a charity donation of 5 26" LCD TVs was made to the Fire Fighters Charity in Littlehampton.

Conservation Project at Riding for the Disabled Assocation (RDA) Saturday, 22/08/2010

Recently, Rotaractors, Rotarians and friends, converged at the RDA for their latest project. After their sterling efforts clearing the area around the St Ebbas garden earlier this year, the nearby RDA was next in their sights. So naturally, they sprang into action. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the Epsom Community Projects Group!

Rotary/Rotaract Collections for Shelterbox for Pakistan Saturday 14/08/2010

 
Rotaractors from Epsom and Epsom and Ewell Rotarians recently collected for Shelterbox at the Ashley Centre in Epsom. This time we were raising money for shelterboxes that would go towards the flood victims in Pakistan. Soban, an international Rotaractor from Sri Lanka, who is currently studying in the UK also assisted in the collections. A total of £1183 was raised which was almost enough for three Shelterboxes! Overall, it was a great effort from all involved.

Volunteering at Runways End Scout Camp, Alderhot 31/07/2010

On Saturday 31 July 2010, Camberley Rotaract and several Epsom Rotaractors were invited back to the Scout Camp at Runways End for some volunteering work. The area is shortly awaiting major renovation and there were several tasks required to be carried out by the District 1140 Rotaractors.

Mark's President's Meal, 05/06/2010


On June 15th Epsom Rotaract staged the traditional end of year president's meal. This year we were celebrating Mark Cunnell's reign as president. His time as president has made him a more confident public speaker, but the time for talking was now over (or something). The time for celebrating had begun.

The Rotaract District 1140 Ball - The Oscars hosted by Woking Rotaract 08/05/2010

The Woking Holiday Inn was the site for the first District 1140 ball of the new decade. The theme this year for the ball, was 'the Oscars.' A drinks reception, followed by a three course meal, began proceedings. We were then treated to a presentation from a representative of the Rainbow Trust (http://www.rainbowtrust.org.uk/), the chosen charity for the evening.

The Epsom Rotaract Race Night 24/04/2010

Under starters orders.. on your marks, get set... go! The club staged its annual Race Night, raising money this year for the Fire Fighters Charity. President Mark Cunnell was on double duty that night: He and Karina 'flagged down' visitors outside (pun intended) and Mark then welcomed us to the Race Night in his opening speech.

The St Ebbas Garden Project: Day 3. 27/03/2010



Members of the Epsom Rotaract Club assisted Epsom Rotary in their latest community project. The aim of the project is to clear the garden and turn it into a sensory garden for the mentally handicapped children at the facility. Rotaractors, Rotarians and friends spent a couple of hours at St Ebbas Hospital's garden. They were clearing parts of it that had become overgrown. Footpaths were cleared and a fresh coat of paint was added to areas of the garden. No nook or cranny was left unturned, as they approached the conclusion of the project. A good job was done by all involved.

Epsom Rotaract live on Point FM Tuesday 23/03/2010




John Bishop, the Epsom Rotaract Membership and Publicity Officer for 09/10 visited Point FM 87.7 in Cheam to spread the word about Rotaract to the stations listeners. John was interviewed by Philip Hewitt from 3:30-4pm. They discussed Epsom Rotaract's fundraising efforts over the past several years, as well as the kind of social and community activities potential members can expect from the club. John would like to thank Point FM and Cheam Baptist Church for inviting him on the show.

Epsom Rotary Valentines Ball at the Queens Stand Epsom 13/02/2010

Epsom Rotaract had twelve people attend the Epsom Rotary Valentines Ball on Saturday 13th February. It featured a three course meal, a raffle, a band, dancing and a performance from the Freewheelers Theatre Company. £3000+ was raised for Children's Trust & Freewheelers Theatre Company! Well done everyone!

Epsom Rotaract New Years Eve Celebrations 31/12/2009 - 03/01/2010

Happy New Year! Members of the Epsom Rotaract club converged at a cottage at Nettlecombe Farm (http://www.nettlecombefarm.co.uk/) in Whitwell, for 3 nights to see in 2010. The group celebrated the new year in style at the local pub. There was a 'fancy dress' theme, causing the Rotaractors to morph into various characters including, among others: a vicar, some robbers, a gangster, a sheep and a farmer. Never before had characters such as these wandered the streets of the Isle of Wight. Well, apart from a sheep and a farmer. And a vicar.
