Eurovision 2012 at Ellie's! 26/05/2012

It's Eurovision time! For the second year running Rotaractors and friends gathered at Ellie's flat to watch the  big event unfold on TV.

As is tradition, each guest brought food from European countries that they had chosen at random. Some of the dishes (amongst others) brought along included: Chocolate Brioche from John (France). John's brother Martin bought Bratwurst for Germany, Ellie laid on coronation chicken sandwiches for the UK, Anthony brought Swedish Meatballs and Rachel made some delicious Portuguese style bread.

Watching 'the Hump' in action

After we had tucked in it was time for the festivities to begin. Last year, Blue provided a lively performance that came 11th. This year, Engelbert 'the Hump' Humperdinck represented the UK. Although the song was good, it was a bit slower than the more modern songs, leading Mark and several others to call it 'crap.'

It was a more sedate atmosphere than last year, as we were confident that Engelbert did not have a chance of winning. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the show and the various acts that competed, such as Jedward (Ireland) and shouty Rona Nishliu (Albania).

In the end poor Engelbert finished 23rd (second to last). Nevertheless, a good time was had by all. A big thank you to Ellie for a fun evening!
