On Saturday 22nd November, over 60 enthusiastic quizzers took part
in Leatherhead Rotary's annual Charity Quiz Night at Leatherhead Parish Church Hall.
Epsom Rotaractors Jasmyn, John, Helen and Laura combined with
Martin, Caroline and Richard from John's quiz team to form 'That's a
lot of Change.'
After eight challenging rounds of ten questions each, on subjects
ranging from ‘General Knowledge’ and ‘Current Affairs’ to
‘Famous Quotes’ and ‘Colours’, together with a special
20-point ‘Famous Faces’ picture quiz, ‘The Wurzels’ and
‘That’s A Lot Of Change’ proved inseparable at the top of the
10 teams taking part, each with a very impressive score of 80 points
out of a possible 100. However, it was ‘The Wurzels’ who
ultimately took the title after a tiebreak question about the length
of the about the length of the M25 motorway, coming to within just
two miles of the correct answer of 117 miles. First prize was 6 bottles of wine.
As well as the quiz itself, everyone present enjoyed an excellent
shepherd's pie supper, courtesy of Clark’s CafĂ© in Leatherhead, and
a raffle which helped to raise over £650 for the club’s international
projects, including ‘Wherever The Need’, a UK-based charity that
aims to alleviate poverty and provide access to clean sanitation
throughout developing countries by building life-saving
eco-toilets.
Leatherhead Rotary's Simon Edmunds ran the quiz and event
organiser Gary Zabel said he was delighted with how well the evening
had gone and how much had been raised, adding, ‘We’re very
grateful to everyone who supported the event and also donated a large
number of excellent raffle prizes.'
And our team didn't go home empty handed as Simon rather aptly
gave us some chocolate money. A good night all round. Thanks to
Leatherhead Rotary for having us.
