Epsom Rotary Strictly (But Not Too Strictly) Come Dancing Evening 21/05/2011

Oh my God, Anthony's dancing!

Epsom Rotary recently staged an entertaining ballroom dancing-themed fundraiser at Riddel Memorial Hall in Tadworth. A brief ballroom lesson opened the evening. Most of the room went into couples and learnt some basic dance steps. In a landmark moment, the normally dance averse club Rotaract president Anthony took to the floor with Ellie!

Ellie and Anthony, Holly and Charles and other club members made a commendable effort. However, the younger dancers were overshadowed by the older generation in this event. The older audience members (who regularly patronised these events on a weekly basis in their youth) showed their stuff after the lesson, in a freestyle ballroom tour de force.

After an intermission for some snacks and drinks and a mandatory raffle, the entertainment began. The Freewheelers Theatre company performed their own unique and uplifting brand of interpretive dance. This was subsequently followed by two professional ballroom dancers who provided two dances (and two costume changes) for the audience. The night concluded with more freestyle dancing.

Rotary President Richard Harris then proudly announced that £1,500 had been raised for the Freewheelers Theatre Company. Well done to everyone who helped make this event a rousing success!
