Sailing Trip in Southampton 23-25/09/2011

NB: This blog is normally compiled by John Bishop, Membership and Publicity officer for Epsom Rotaract. On this occasion however, new club member Simon (who sailed with Anthony, Rob and Wendy) has provided his own 'captains eye view' of this event (photos by Anthony):

Anthony, Rob & Wendy joined Simon aboard the boat on the Hamble River on a slowly warming autumn Friday morning for what turned into a brilliant weekend for learning to sail and in contrast with the previous sailing trip some prefect sailing weather!

Over the course of the three days we explored the eastern and western Solent finding places that can only be accessed properly by boat. From the stillness of being anchored amongst the plentiful wildlife in Newtown Creek to the crew having to get to grips with learning to turn (tack) a boat quickly in succession to get along a narrow channel to get into the Beaulieu River.

Our route for the weekend was (a GPS of the route is below):
Friday
Hamble River to Osbourne Bay
Osbourne Bay to Duver Marina (Bembridge Harbour, IoW)

Saturday
Bembridge Harbour to Newtown Creek
Newtown Creek to Bucklars Hard Marina (Beaulieu River)

Sunday
Bucklars Hard to Hamble River

The stunning scenery, excellent weather and great company has left organiser Simon thinking about dates for when we could do it again!
