2014/15 has been a fantastic year for Epsom Rotaract - 3 new members, nearly £3,000 (so far) raised for our club charity and lots of brilliant socials and community events!
This year the club has supported one local charity Surrey Air Ambulance (http://www.kssairambulance. org.uk/). The club chose to continue to support the charity in memory of Epsom Rotaractor Simon who sadly passed away in September 213. Our Carry on Flying Quiz in aid of Surrey Air Ambulance which took place in February was a huge success with 144 people attending and nearly £1,600 raised. And with our other fundraising efforts during the year we have raised nearly £3,000 for the charity, which we hope to present to them in the near future.
We have had several presentations to last year's charities in the last 12 months. In July we presented the Ebbisham Ward at Epsom General Hospital with a neonatal Sure Signs monitor purchased as a result of our fundraising for Epsom Medical Equipment Fund (EMEF). In November we presented Surrey Air Ambulance with £3,290.61 at a special club meeting. And in February we were able to present Epsom General Hospital with a Bariatric Urology Couch with the rest of the money we had raised for EMEF.
The club has been involved in a number of community events over the past year. In September members of the club helped out at the Epsom and Ewell Borough Family Fun Day at Hook Road Arena. In December we were doing Christmas Collections with Epsom Rotary and in March we returned to Slindon for our annual conservation weekend with the National Trust. Over the Easter weekend Epsom Rotaractor Helen volunteered at Rotary District 1140's RYLA weekend in the New Forest. In May we assisted Epsom Rotary and Ewell Rotary with the Nepal Earthquake Appeal collection in The Ashley Centre and in June we helped out at Ashtead Village Day and marshalled at the Cancer Research UK Race for Life Event at Epsom Downs Racecourse. We have also helped out with conservation projects at Epsom Riding for the Disabled and St Ebba's Hospital Garden during the year.
We have also supported various Rotary and Rotaract events over the year. In October we attended Camberley Rotaract's Gameshow Mashup and in November we quizzed with Leatherhead Rotary. In March we had to split forces with two events on one evening, some members attended Woking Rotaract's Race Night and others went to Bromley Rotaract's Fish 'n' Quiz Night. In May we do si doed the night away at Leatherhead Rotary's Barn Dance. Although we had no luck at any of the charity events we did win the Penny Black quiz in March!
Several of our club members have been guest speakers at local Rotary clubs this year. Katie gave a talk to Ewell Rotary on using Facebook to promote Rotary and Rotaract and Jasmyn spoke to Dorking Deepdene Rotary about Rotary Youth Exchange.
We celebrated a brilliant 2014/15 Rotary/Rotaract year with a fantastic Presidents' Induction Meal with Epsom Rotary at Cuddington Golf Club in early July.
A big thanks to everyone who was on the committee this year and good luck to the committee of 2015/16.
Here's to a great 2015/16 for Epsom Rotaract!
